Two years ago, North Carolina made national headlines when 50-year-old Steven Sabock was neglected to death at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro. As employees played cards, watched television and goofed off, video shows Sabock sitting ailing and dazed a few feet away, his clothes soaked with his urine. Twenty-two hours later, he was dead. Lost federal funding to the hospital cost taxpayers millions. Less than a year earlier, 27-year-old Anthony Lowery died while being restrained at Broughton. In the past decade, at least 10 suspicious deaths have been reported at state hospitals.
