Town to stop helping with commitments – Wilkes Journal-Patriot

North Wilkesboro commissioners have agreed that, effective Nov. 1, town police officers will no longer supervise non-town residents awaiting involuntary commitment at Wilkes Regional Medical Center (WRMC).

North Wilkesboro Police Chief Joe Rankin said this morning that, effective on that date, “We will no longer pick up the (commitment) papers (from the magistrate), serve the papers or stay at the hospital with patients who are not town residents.”
