No easy answers to mental health access | The Asheville Citizen-Times

There have been many questions into whether the presumed shooter from the tragedy this month in Tucson has a psychiatric illness. I will first emphasize many of the details remain outstanding in regards to answering such questions in this case. Regardless, the assumption has led to the political reality of questioning whether the mental health system failed in being able to prevent such a tragedy. Calls for serious reform of our nation’s mental health system are rising. This outcry comes on top of our own state’s challenges at reform over the last decade that most agree has been poorly executed.
