New River HealthCare is ‘dissolving’ – Watauga Democrat

New River Behavioral HealthCare is “dissolving,” not closing, a spokeswoman for the organization said.
That dissolution is a consequence of an ongoing financial situation that continues to unfold.

Last month, the North Carolina Division of Medical Assistance suspended Medicaid payments to New River Behavioral HealthCare, effective Sept. 22, due to complaints. Twenty-four employees were terminated due to economic reasons and operations were ceased in Caldwell, McDowell and Alexander counties. Services continue in Ashe, Alleghany, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties, where 310 people are currently employed.
