NC inmate with brain damage died of natural causes – Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Liver disease killed a North Carolina inmate who had been paralyzed by what he claimed was a beating by correction officers, according to an autopsy report released Friday.

Dr. Deborah Radisch, the state’s chief medical examiner, concluded that Timothy E. Helms died of complications from end-stage liver disease at a Greensboro hospital on Sept. 5, 2010, two years after he was paralyzed. Radisch’s report also notes extensive trauma to Helms’ brain.
