Mental illness led Billy Ray Bridges to kill neighbor, defense says | Shelby Star

SHELBY — On the day Dennis Porter was killed, Billy Ray Bridges was enraged, illogical, irrational and delusional, a clinical psychologist testified Monday.

“Mr. Bridges’ actions were very impaired by his mental illness and disorders,” Dr. John Warren told the court during testimony for the defense.

Bridges is accused of shooting Porter and dumping his body off the Blue Ridge Parkway in April 2006. Bridges lived across the street from Porter on Ridge Street, just off Canterbury Road in Patterson Springs.
