Man claims he was sexually abused in Wilkes jail | Winston-Salem Journal

WILKESBORO — A mentally disabled man with a history of psychiatric hospitalizations was arrested when he sought help at Wilkes Regional Medical Center’s emergency room and spent three weeks in jail, where he was beaten by at least one inmate, according to police records and interviews with authorities.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the man’s claim that he was sexually abused while in the Wilkes jail, said Sheriff Chris Shew.
