As difficult as it is to imagine, children as young as 2 or 3 years old may have depression or anxiety. In fact, it is estimated that between 9 percent and 14 percent of children from birth to 5 years of age experience social and emotional problems that negatively affect their functioning and development. The numbers for developmental disabilities are equally staggering. The N.C. Autism Society estimates that one out of every 110 children born today has some form of autism spectrum disorder.
