Johnston County hospital hopes to overhaul ER – Raleigh News & Observer

SMITHFIELD — When an ambulance rushed Christy Malham’s grandmother to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for stomach pains, doctors helped her right away and admitted her to the hospital.

“I thought they got her in very quickly,” said Malham of Princeton.

But Malham, a mother of three, knows what it’s like to wait in the hospital’s emergency department. She has had to wait up to three hours for her children to receive care, she said.
