Hardy: Mental health – less will be done with less | Morganton News-Herald

Hickory, NC – As the General Assembly in Raleigh faces the task of balancing the state budget, there are several items worth considering as they relate to supporting services to people with mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse.

Like other serious conditions and illnesses, individuals who struggle with behavioral health issues do not just get better on their own. Most need to be consistently managed at varying levels of support. Failure to provide treatment or effective support often ends with a crisis.  Without question, crises are handled at a higher and more costly level of care.
