Family members question police actions in gunfight that led to Winston-Salem man’s death

Relatives of Donald Ray Moore, the Winston-Salem man killed after exchanging gunfire with police on May 25, say they think officers used excessive force and should have called in a mental-health agency mediator during the standoff.

They said an officer shot Moore, 64, in his back and arm, and the bullet went through Moore’s back and out of his chest. They said Moore, who had no criminal record, didn’t shoot himself.
