Event here will raise timely issue of sterilization compensation | Winston-Salem Journal

Thursday night, for the second time in four years, Winston-Salem State University will host an event that explores the chilling ramifications of this state’s forced sterilization program.

Edwin Black, the author of “The War Against the Weak,” a book that inspired a documentary by the same name, will speak at the school as part of a North Carolina tour. An expert on the national sterilization movement, he puts North Carolina’s program among the worst. The prominent here and in other cities across the state supported the program, which ran from 1929 through 1974.
