County commissioners in five northwest North Carolina counties approved Friday a new amendment to their contract with New River Behavioral Healthcare that likely will lead to a new oversight board for the provider next week.
Earlier this week, commissioners in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes voted to amend their agreement with New River and dissolve its status as a 160A behavioral-health provider as of Nov. 15. Friday’s votes took place in emergency meetings.
