Editorial: Mental health issues linger on : Greensboro News-Record

The fallout from the state’s ill-conceived changes in providing treatment for the mentally ill continues.

In the latest turn of events, federal Medicaid regulators have warned the state that it may be in violation of a rule that limits how many mentally ill patients can be housed in rest homes and assisted-living centers mostly serving the elderly.

That could affect more than 40 such facilities statewide and the more than 1,200 mentally ill patients who live in them.
