Cumberland County officials may have to find more money to look after mentally disabled as well as elderly residents, as the county braces for state budget cuts.

In fiscal 2010, the county Department of Social Services received 115 referrals for guardianships, mostly for the aged. That was a 67 percent jump from two years earlier. Not all referrals lead to guardianships.
