Collateral Damage: Fayetteville area law enforcement agencies don’t track crime related to military

Judge Beth Keever said she is often asked what effect the military has on Cumberland County’s crime rate.

Keever, the county’s chief District Court judge, is hard-pressed to provide an answer. That’s because no one tracks the service members or veterans who commit crimes. Not the military. Not the court system. Not the Fayetteville Police Department. And not the Sheriff’s Office, although it recently began tracking soldiers and veterans in its pretrial release program.
