CHS plans new mental hospital to meet need | Charlotte Observer

Responding to a surge in demand for mental health services, Carolinas HealthCare System on Tuesday unveiled plans to build a new psychiatric hospital in Huntersville.

In a presentation to a committee of county commissioners, hospital system CEO Michael Tarwater said CHS would pay the $24.5 million construction cost – along with expected operating losses – at the 44-bed treatment center.
