Knowing that the federal government is coming to visit, in a manner of speaking, to conduct an investigation of North Carolina’s troubled mental health care system must be nerve-wracking for state officials. For, given the system’s condition, it’s rather like a couple of college kids who have let their apartment fall into a horrifying state of sloppiness getting a call that Mom and Dad are coming by. And are downstairs.
Except: The mental health system is much more important, and its distressing condition is downright dangerous.
