As overseers of behavioral-health providers began the process of transferring patients to larger agencies this week, a state Cabinet official said he is willing to take a slower and broader approach to the latest attempt at reform.

Lanier Cansler, the secretary of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, said he is talking with the federal Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services about four potential changes to the Critical Access Behavioral Health Agency program.
