Mecklenburg Area Mental Health Director Grayce Crockett was put on leave Friday amid questions about her department’s handling of financial problems at a contractor that has received millions in public dollars.
County Manager Harry Jones said Crockett knew – but did not alert county management – that a federal lien had been placed against Mecklenburg Open Door for failing to pay more than $53,000 in payroll taxes. He said the county would study all actions it has taken with the nonprofit contractor, including oversight by the mental health department.
