‘Keep Dix open,’ crowd chants – Raleigh News & Observer

RALEIGH — With a cheer of “Keep Dix open,” about 150 people gathered Thursday outside the governor’s mansion to protest the moving of mental health patients out of Dorothea Dix Hospital.

With no money from the state legislature to keep the hospital running, most of its psychiatric patients are expected to be moved to other facilities by the end of the year. The majority will be taken to Central Regional Hospital in Butner and Cherry Hospital in Goldsbor
