In search for cuts, NC leaders must recognize some can be expensive | Asheville Citizen-Times

No matter how you look at them, the numbers don’t look good for North Carolina lawmakers.

That was the grim consensus at this week’s annual Legislative Briefing sponsored by the United Way and the N.C. Justice Center at Asheville-Buncombe Community Technical College’s Enka campus.

Nonprofit leaders crowded the meeting in one of the largest turnouts in recent years. And with good reason: Many of their worthwhile programs, which receive state grants and other funding, could be on the chopping block when the General Assembly convenes in January.
