On the day last week when former Gov. Mike Easley stepped into a courtroom to plead to a felony, his successor took another small step to help thousands of aging victims that Easley forgot.

Easley will long be remembered for his felony conviction for certifying a false campaign finance report in connection with a 2006 campaign flight, and for scandals that embroiled his administration, including ones about a coastal land deal and the posh job his wife was handed at N.C. State.
