The doors of many group homes that house children diagnosed with mental illnesses such as severe emotional distress will soon close.

The children housed in these group homes are usually teens who have been diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder, bipolar disorder, conduct disorder or have made suicide attempts. Some are habitual runaways and are hard to keep safe, said Natalie Faulkner, clinical therapist at NIA Children and Family Services.
