Mental-health provider Alpha Omega exits Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties | Asheville Citizen-Times

ASHEVILLE — The major provider of mental-health services in three mountain counties has closed down its operations in the area.

Two other companies have stepped in to fill the gap, but at least 100 patients in Madison County have not yet connected with a new provider.

More shakeups could be on the way statewide. Mental-health providers, officials and advocates predict more providers shutting down, laying off employees and reducing services as they reel from the latest round of state changes, including dramatic budget cuts.

“We did a bad deed here, and we cut them too much,” state Sen. Martin Nesbitt told other lawmakers at a meeting last week. Story continues here ➤
