eNorth Carolina’s prosecutors are concerned about the erosion of state services for people with mental illness who are accused of crimes (news story, Nov. 5). Their concerns highlight the real impact of inadequate services in the community. This crisis will only get worse as the budget crunch steadily dismantles those services. Jails and prisons will become the state’s safety net. With cuts in services there will be more people with mental illness in the justice system. The DAs’ letter is a cry for help. Please listen!
