High Point Enterprise – Hundreds of homeless attend memorial dinner

HIGH POINT – With the elements predicted to turn inhospitable for those without shelter, Thursday’s gathering of local homeless for a free meal in downtown High Point was timely.

The annual Homeless Memorial Dinner, presented by the High Point Housing Coalition, brought 350 to 400 homeless individuals from local shelters, transitional housing programs and off the streets to Showplace. In addition to the meal, attendees were treated to a program that featured music, testimonials and served to honor and remember eight local homeless citizens who died during 2009. The event also served to recognize National Homeless Person’s Memorial Day, which is observed each Dec. 21, the first day of winter. Story continues here ➤
