FayObserver.com – Tragedy of mental illness does not discriminate

It is with great sadness that I have read the accounts of the Billy Maxwell family and all that his surviving family and friends must be experiencing. Mental illness is tragic and the pain is enduring for all concerned.

I would like to take this opportunity, however, to thank The Fayetteville Observer and those close to the Maxwells for sharing with others that Billy Maxwell Jr. was indeed experiencing a brain (mental) illness. Too often, stories such as this are treated as media hype, are insensitive writings to the feelings of family and friends, and do not highlight the tragedy of unsought help for those suffering with a mental illness and those close to them.
