ThisAs the mother of a bright and beautiful son whose life has been changed forever by schizophrenia, I offer tremendous gratitude to the doctors, nurses, social workers and direct-care staff of Dorothea Dix Hospital. My son has suffered through 10 years of being shuffled through the revolving doors of mental health hospitals and treatment centers in North Carolina, only to be rushed back out each time after only a few days in the same or even worse condition. Nowhere other than Dorothea Dix Hospital has he received the time, care, attention and professional help that have been lacking.
