Boy walks to help homeless children – Greensboro News-Record

boyGREENSBORO — With every step, 11-year-old Zach Bonner is raising awareness for homeless children.

Four cameras, including one filming him for a documentary, surround the red-haired fifth-grader at Chuck E. Cheese, where his trek from his Tampa, Fla., home to Washington took him through Greensboro in a morning downpour. Surprisingly composed for a preteen who has become an authority on such an adult topic, Zach is worried about homeless children in a day-to-day struggle for a place to go at night.

“Some kids like to play baseball, some kids like to play soccer,” Zach said after arriving at the Friendly Center eatery and play center full of children, including the dozen or so homeless children whose families are being provided temporary shelter through the Guilford Interfaith Hospitality Network.

“This is what I like to do,” he said.
