Abuse alarms – Raleigh News & Observer

Doris Weaver has had some questions, and she has wanted some answers. The reason behind her determination is one no daughter would want to face: Her 88-year-old mother, who suffers from advanced dementia and has been in the Sunnybrook Healthcare and Rehabilitation facility in Raleigh, was injured last month, and suffered bruises on her face. That’s all a daughter needs to know to spring into action.

Because of her overall condition, Della Jarrett can’t communicate and say what happened. Sunnybrook officials told state regulators 11 days after Jarrett was hurt that they could not determine the cause. When a News & Observer reporter called for comment, the facility did say it had suspended an unidentified employee. Sunnybrook, The N&O’s Thomas Goldsmith recently reported, had not at that point shared that information with Jarrett’s family members or the police.
